Matmatch enables you to easily and quickly search for materials from multiple starting points.
Whether you have a material category in mind, a material property, a supplier name, or an application area, you can access Matmatch’s advanced search and discover the wide ranges of materials that fit your requirements.
Here’s how you can do it.
This feature helps you find the list of materials within one or more material categories (e.g., Stainless Steel, Engineering Ceramic, or Polyamide).
Type in the search box the material category you are interested in and select the one under the “Category” heading in the drop-down menu.
You can add categories to your filter by selecting them from the “CATEGORIES” section in the sidebar.
You can remove a category from your filter by simply deselecting it from the sidebar.
Explore the various materials that fit your category selection.
Note: Your filter always has to have at least one category selected. Almost every material category on Matmatch has subcategories. You can improve your filter by selecting/deselecting subcategories. Simply, click on the “+” box next to each category to see more.
This feature helps you find the materials that have a designated value for a particular material property (e.g., Thermal conductivity, Yield Strength, or Dielectric Constant).
Type in the search box the property you are interested in and select the one under the “Material Property” heading in the drop-down menu.
Use the histogram in the sidebar under your selected property to specify the minimum and maximum values of the property. The vertical bars represent the number of available materials in our database, and the horizontal slides show the property values.
You can add more properties to your filter by clicking on the “Add a material property +” button and selecting one or more properties from the pop-up menu.
You can remove a property from your filter by simply clicking on the “x” icon next to it.
Some material data sheets may not have the property data that you are filtering for. The search results will only show the materials that have the corresponding data in their datasheets. Matmatch continues to seek all possible property values in order to provide you with the most comprehensive and accurate data.
Explore the various materials that fit your property selection.
Note: For a quick display of the property values in the search results, you can add up to three of your selected properties to the top row of your search results.
This feature helps you find the materials provided by a particular supplier.
Type in the search box the supplier company name you are interested in and select the one under the “Supplier” heading in the drop-down menu.
Once you are on the supplier’s company page, click on “See all materials by this supplier” in the “Materials” section.
This takes you to a search page with the full list of materials provided by this supplier.
You can add suppliers to your filter by either selecting them from the suggested “SUPPLIERS” list in the sidebar or by clicking on the “See all suppliers” button below and selecting them from the pop-up menu.
You can remove a selected supplier from your filter by simply deselecting it from the sidebar.
Explore the various materials that fit your supplier selection.
Note: If your selected supplier(s) provides materials from different material categories, you can improve your filter by deselecting the material categories that you are not interested in from the CATEGORIES list in the sidebar. You can also view materials that do not have existing suppliers on Matmatch by turning on the toggle button next to "Include materials with suppliers" in the SUPPLIERS list.
This feature helps you find the materials that are used in particular application areas or industries (e.g., Automotive, Aerospace, or Packaging).
Type in the search box the application or industry you are interested in and select the one under the “Application” heading in the drop-down menu.
You can add applications/industries to your filter by clicking on the “Add an application +” button in the sidebar under “APPLICATIONS” and selecting them from the pop-up menu.
You can remove an application/industry from your filter by simple clicking on the “x” icon next to it.
Explore the various materials that fit your application selection.
Note: For a deeper application filter, you can click on the “Add an application +” button and select your preferred application areas within a particular industry.
Matmatch makes material comparison easy and straightforward. You can either do a limited comparison directly on the search results page (up to three properties) or explore a more comprehensive display on a dedicated comparison page with complete datasheets.
Here’s how to do it.
Once you are on a Matmatch search results page, you can add the material properties you are interested in from the sidebar section titled “MATERIAL PROPERTIES”.
To perform a quick comparison between the listed materials for the chosen properties, you can add up to three properties to the top row of the materials list.
This enables you to see the property values for each material as you scroll through the list.
You can also sort the materials list based on the chosen property values in order of highest-to-lowest or lowest-to-highest by simply clicking on the arrows next to the property.
You can remove the “sort” feature by clicking again on the arrows and turning them off.
Note: The “sort” feature works for one property at a time. The materials list will rearrange based on the last selected property. This can be easily noticed by the blue arrow.
Once you are on a Matmatch search results page, select the materials that you are interested in comparing by simply clicking on the checkbox at the right end of each material.
As soon as you select two or more materials, a small box titled “Compare and Visualise” pops-up at the bottom right of your screen.
You can select as many materials as you like.
You can see all your selected materials by clicking on the small arrow in the “Compare and Visualise” pop-up.
If you want to deselect any of the materials, simply click on the “bin” icon next to the material in the pop-up.
When ready, click on the “Compare Materials” button. This will take you to a new “Materials Comparison” page.
Select at least one property you are interested in viewing from the “Available properties” section in the sidebar to see a visual comparison of the materials.
To compare the datasheets of the selected materials, click on “GO TO TEXTUAL COMPARISON” at the top-right end of the page or simply scroll down until you reach the textual comparison.
At the level of the textual comparison, you can scroll left and right to see the property values of all the selected materials.
Once you find your preferred material, simply click on its name to go to the relative material page.
Note: Not all materials have designated values for every property. This depends on the data provided by materials suppliers and data providers. The visual comparison will only display the materials that do have a corresponding value for the selected property. Matmatch continues to seek all possible property values in order to provide you with the most comprehensive and accurate data.
Matmatch not only helps you explore materials but also enables you to contact materials suppliers directly.

Matmatch gives you the ability to explore and compare materials visually using interactive Ashby charts.
Ashby charts are scatter plots that display all the materials on one chart based on two distinct properties (e.g., Elastic Modulus vs Density). They use logarithmic scales for each axis, where each step represents a factor of 10.
Each material category is represented by a bubble on the chart.
The material itself is represented by a black dot.
By hovering over the chart area, the chart will indicate what material category each bubble corresponds to.
You can also click on a bubble to explore the subsections of the corresponding material category. You can go back by clicking on the breadcrumb in the navigation line right over the Ashby chart.
You can download the Ashby chart as a PNG file by clicking on the corresponding pixel size over the chart (e.g., 1600x2172).
Note: To get free access to the interactive “Ashby chart” feature, simply sign up and create a free Matmatch account.
Matmatch offers comprehensive content that explains how and where certain materials are used. These use cases can provide you in great detail with the information you need to make better informed decisions.
